Light Show in Tunnel of Steinhart Aquarium at California Academy of Sciences

And now for something different: San Francisco has a phenomenal natural history museum slash aquarium at the California Academy of Sciences. I finally made time to see it last month when I visited the city for the third time. To be honest, I’m not sure I got much from the experience that I hadn’t already from the also-excellent natural history museums in Washington, DC, and New York City. But I still had fun, and I’m glad I went.

I particularly enjoyed the Steinhart Aquarium. When I was a child, sea creatures fascinated me with their alienness from a terrestrial perspective, and I still thrill to see them at aquariums or in their native environments.

One section of the aquarium features a tunnel underneath the water visitors can walk through, and the sunlight shining down from the museum’s skylights, refracted through the water with the fish swimming amidst, struck me as an interesting image.
