Autumn colors at the Maroon Bells near Aspen

Fall colors at the Maroon Bells

It’s easy to see why the Maroon Bells near Aspen, Colorado, are purported to be “the most photographed mountains in North America.” When I visited them in autumn of 2012, I was fortunate they had fewer tourists than normal, even though the yellows of the aspen trees at their base enhanced their beauty.

For most of the photos I shot at the Maroon Bells, I lowered my tripod to a short height and got on my hands and knees to manipulate the camera.
